HOW-TO: Traditional Design-to-Virtual Reality Workflow: Improving the Health and Welfare of Future Building Occupants

AIA Continuing Education Course Code:

PRESWERX0001

Credit Designation:

LU|HSW (1.0 Course Learning Units)

Course Description:
This 1-hour course will provide a detailed “how-to” covering the latest advancements in technology being used during the design process to directly improve the health and welfare of users of the building. More specifically, this course will teach architects how to take their designs, using their current design-software of choice (i.e. whatever CAD or BIM platform/environment their practice primarily works in) to create 3D virtual environments from their existing work product. The course material and step-by-step “how-to” will center on using virtual reality to create building environments that better promote the physical, mental and social well-being among the users of the building, and how virtual reality can create an environment that elicits greater, positive emotional and physical responses from users of the building. Lastly, the course will address the benefits of virtual reality as it relates to improving Design (Building Design, Site Design and Interiors), Occupant Comfort (simulating Lighting), and Materials and Methods (gauging users’ reactions to Finishes, Furnishing and Equipment).
